Board of Trustees 2011

Mike Cope(Chairperson)
I am married to Sonia and we have four children.  Samuel and Harry currently attend Stanmore Bay School, with Jackson and Matthew to follow. I have lived on the Coast for most of my life, and I am employed by a large civil construction company in the role of Operations manager. I joined the Board of Trustees in 2007 as a way to give back to the school community. As part of my role on the Board, I am a member of the Property and Health and Safety committees. I am also a current member of the Board of Management for the North Auckland Kindergarten Association and on the committee of the Whangaparaoa Scout Group. I feel that my knowledge and skills in the construction industry allows me to assist with the ongoing property and maintenance issues of Stanmore Bay School. I believe I am able to represent the interests of the wider school community while providing direction and governance to the school by supporting the Principal and Staff in the education and development of all the children at Stanmore Bay Primary School.

Lyn Salmond (Treasurer)
I have been associated with Stanmore Bay School for the last 4 years with both of my two children currently attending. I have lived on the coast for the better part of 30 years and I am a qualified Chartered Accountant. I have been impressed with the way the school is being run and the positive environment for learning and would like to be actively involved in this process and help continue the good work to ensure the success of the school and the students as they heard off to their next step in education and life.

Nick Monckton
My name is Nick Monckton and I am a parent with 3 children Daniel, Alex and Rosie at Stanmore Bay School. I am a self-employed technician and my work takes me into many schools, homes and businesses in the Auckland area installing broadband Internet and new Media Solutions. I strongly believe the partnership that exists between the school and parents is vital to our children's learning and that by serving on the board I can bring some of my own skills and life experiences to the school.

Darren James
I am married to Denise and have 2 children at Stanmore Bay School – Regan 10, Kieran 7 and Leo 3 at Kindy. My background is Project Management and Sales. I have worked for Barfoot & Thompson since 2002 where I manage a 30 strong sales team at the Northcote branch. My involvement with Stanmore Bay School will continue for a further 8 years, having started in 2005 when my daughter joined Mrs Lloyd’s class. I am keen to contribute to the management and development of the school. I hope that the skills and experiences that I have may be useful qualities to assist the Board of Trustees. I look to give the teaching staff and Carol Abley my wholehearted support. Above all, my aim is simple – to provide as good an educational platform as possible for all pupils at the school to develop to their highest potential.

Afke Bath
My name is Afke Bath. I am the mother of three children, two of whom still attend Stanmore Bay School. We have enjoyed a happy nine year association with the school. My husband and I moved up to the coast 10 years ago with our two sons, and our third child was born two years later. My qualifications include a Bachelor of Education and a Diploma of Early Childhood Education.  I have taught in various schools, childcares and Kindergartens over the past 22 years. Due to my education background I believe I have a range of skills to contribute to the Board of Trustees. I believe that in order to achieve best results for our children, we need to work together as a team. As the saying goes "It takes a whole village to raise a child."  In our experience the village ethos runs strongly in the Stanmore Bay Community. To that end I would like to make a greater contribution to SBS as a Board Member. I consider myself to be an honest person who gives 100% with sincerity and integrity.

Susanne Wilson
I have a long and happy association with Stanmore Bay School.  I am an ex pupil and also spent time in the school as a student teacher.  My partner and I are very proud to say our children are attending the SBS and will be there for many years to come.  Personally, I have made education my profession and believe I bring a sound background knowledge to the Board.  I have been a Dean at WGPC for many years now and am also the HOD of Media Studies; this means I have strengths with Pastoral issues, a sound curriculum knowledge, as well as a thorough understanding of the dynamics of education.   I wish to support the excellent team managing the school, as well as the fantastic teachers and support staff; and also continue to encourage and support Stanmore Bay School to grow in both strength and achievement.  susannewi@wgpcollege.school.nz
