 Kia ora koutou whanau whanui,

In 2010, we implemented a new te reo programme in all classes, based on the new Maaori curriculum for English speaking schools. If you are interested in looking at this document here is the link online

http://tereomaori.tki.org.nz/Te-reo-Maori-curriculum-guidelines.

In order to get the whole school on the same page, we started with Level One last year, and introduced Level 2 in 2011 Year4-6. Once we have done this, we hope to eliminate any repetitive learning and to show some progression, as the students move up from Junior to Senior Whanau. It is very much a learning curve for both students and staff.

Here are two of the online sites that your child’s teacher may use. If you have time, take a look. If te reo is new to you as well, perhaps you can ako along with them. The word ako in Maaori means to learn and teach. (More sites of interest will be listed on another page)

http://www.maorilanguage.net/ a great te reo site for the beginner

http://animations.tewhanake.maori.nz/index.cfm animations in Maaori/English with subtitles in both languages.

We like to hear from you, so please do not be shy to get in touch with any suggestions or comments.

Ko taku reo taku ohooho, ko taku reo taku mapihi mauria

My language is my awakening, my language is the window to my soul
