We are situated on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, Hibiscus Coast, Rodney. (Auckland Region)
A U5 Contributing school (Yr1-6 students) with an approximate roll of 400 students. The school community has an 8 decile rating. The school is 28 years old with a wider community of young families in a stabilising urban area.

We believe education helps to shape our unique culture and the way we live in our environment and is at the heart of what it means to be a New Zealander and a global citizen in a changing world. Our directions at Stanmore Bay School will also play an important role in enabling and preparing our students to live as citizens of the world.
Our school will develop an awareness of the changing cultural diversity within our community with particular emphasis on learning programmes on Te Reo and Maori culture
We meet & survey our community bi-annually to discuss the educational achievement of our students & to ascertain our community’s needs & aspirations. Regular reports are relayed through the weekly newsletter & information leaflets.
In seeking to implement this aim we will promote an environment of mutual respect, cooperation, fairness & well being.
Our focus will be to identify educational priorities and implement solutions to raise achievement. This will enable us to set future directions.
Local Curriculum Goals: In implementing the delivery of the curriculum Stanmore Bay School will utilize the interests, strengths and resources of students, staff and the community by providing learning activities that will specifically enhance the culture of our school community.
The following local curriculum goals will provide direction in this aspect:
A.L.I.A.S: to promote the implementation of our Accelerated Learning and Inquiry Approach Strategies throughout the school community. This is an integral focus in our whole school curriculum delivery that encompasses higher order thinking skills and problem solving through an integrated approach of teaching & learning.
Parental Involvement: to encourage active parental participation in school directions and activities by fostering an ‘open –door’ policy and supporting parental development opportunities when appropriate.
Information and Communication Technology: to ensure all students and staff are provided with opportunities to participate and develop skills and pedagogical understanding in a variety of technological mediums.
Children with Special Abilities (Gifted & Talented programmes): to provide opportunities for students with exceptional ability to be challenged and extended.
Education Outside the Classroom: to provide students with challenging opportunities to participate in a variety of activities including:

Curriculum
To foster student achievement by providing teaching and learning programmes, which incorporate the NZ Curriculum, as expressed in the National Curriculum Documents.
Goal
To ensure high quality curriculum programmes are provided, based upon the NZ Curriculum framework, which foster high achievement, based upon recognition of each students needs.
Objectives
a. Development and implementation of curriculum programmes emphasizing the importance of Literacy and Numeracy

Employment and Personnel
Goal
Develop and implement personnel and industrial policies, which promote high levels of staff performance, use educational resources effectively and recognise the needs of students. To be a good employer as defined in the State Sector Act 1989 and comply with employment contract conditions.
Objectives
a. To develop a personnel management programme which meets all the requirements of a sound performance management system
b. To provide appropriate funding to finance suitable staff development
c. To participate in selected curriculum contracts and ensure quality curriculum delivery through an ongoing programme of curriculum development, implementation and review

Finance and Property Management
Goal
Allocation of funds to reflect the schools priorities as stated in the charter and to monitor and control expenditure as legally required

a. To ensure the preparation of an annual budget identifying areas and aspects for priority funding
b. To ensure money is set aside every year for major capital development in the future
c. To undertake fund raising to bridge the gap between operational grant funding and budget requirements
d. To ensure school property is well maintained, attractive, safe and secure

c. To have in place policies and procedures which will seek to minimise the potential for accidents and injury to staff, students and visitors to the school

How will the school reflect:
New Zealand’s cultural diversity
All cultures within the school will be valued and accepted through active encouragement of a non-racist school culture and ethos.
Staff members will ensure that students from all cultures are treated with respect and dignity, and will actively work towards maximising the potential of each student
The unique position of the Maori culture
Stanmore Bay School will endeavour to develop an awareness of Tikanga Maori and Te Reo Maori and provide the means of fostering cultural understanding consistent with the Treaty of Waitangi.
What reasonable steps will the school take to incorporate Tikanga Maori (Maori culture and protocol) into the school’s curriculum?
Classroom activities and school events will reflect Maori culture through signage, waiata, greetings, stick games, commands, and language related to every day objects, days, dates, numeration and kapa haka.
We will endeavour to include components of Tikanga Maori as appropriate to the topic and the class level.
What will the school do to provide instruction in Te Reo Maori (Maori language) for full time students whose parents ask for it?
All requests will be given careful consideration by the Board of Trustees with regard to personnel with the appropriate skills and qualifications; the overall school financial position; and availability of teaching space within the school.
What steps will be taken to discover the views and concerns of the school’s Maori community?
We currently have a Maori representative on the Board of Trustees. The school will continue to encourage Maori representation on the Board of Trustees.
